WRMC delays timetable for national model OH&S laws

A

Monday 6 April 2009

The 80th meeting of the Workplace Relations Ministers’ Council (WRMC) was held in Adelaide on Friday 3 April 2009 and a communiqué has been published.

The Australian Financial Review has reported that a decision on the framework of the model OHS bill has been postponed until May 2009, due to the Queensland Industrial Relations Minister requiring more time to consider the proposal.

The WRMC communiqué states that the Safe Work Australia Council will commence developing the model OHS Act in order to provide an exposure draft in August 2009.

Other matters discussed by WRMC included the establishment of the Safe Work Australia Council, nationally consistent explosives legislation and International Labour Organisation conventions.
