WR&C Amendment Bill proclaimed

A

Thursday 19 June 2008

The Workers Rehabilitation & Compensation (Scheme Review) Amendment Bill 2008 was proclaimed in the Government Gazette No 35 on 26 June 2008. The Workers Rehabilitation & Compensation (Governance Review) Amendment Bill 2008 was also proclaimed on the same day. The same edition of the Gazette contained variations to a range of regulations and a range of 'designated forms' as required by the amendments.

It is important to note that the proclamation did not set dates of effect for those changes that do not take effect on 1 July 2008. These will be dealt with in later proclamations and SISA will continue to use the dates promulgated by WorkCover until that time.

On 18 June, WorkCover published a guide to the changes with the dates of effect for each amendment.

SISA has published a more detailed guide with advice on transitional provisions, dates of effect (which will vary between amendments) and procedural issues. Due to the volume of amendments and the complexity of this work, there has been little time available for detailed checking of the content, so it remains a draft.

All self insurers are encouraged to review the amendments (including the transitional provisions and dates of effect) as a matter of priority and prepare for those amendments that will commence on 1 July 2008.
