Work Injury Guide for Medical Practitioners

ReturnToWorkSA recognises the important role doctors play in supporting workers after a workplace injury and assisting with return to work planning.

A Work Injury Guide for Medical Practitioners has been developed to assist medical practitioners to understand the Return to Work scheme and how best they can support their patient with recovery and return to life and work.

Whilst this guide has been developed for a medical audience, it is a great resource for Return to Work Coordinators who are keen to gain a greater understanding of the doctor's role, and it could be useful in building positive and impactful relationships with your worker's doctor.

Click here to find out more about how you can use the guide, and download a copy of the 'How to use the Work Capacity Certificate', another useful tool that is available to help doctors complete the certificate to ensure employers are able to identify safe return to work.

Return to Work Coordinators: Guideline for employers

ReturnToWorkSA has released new guidelines for employers relating to the appointment and training of Return to Work Coordinators.

Return to Work Coordinators: Guidelines for employers provides a comprehensive overview of the Return to Work Coordinator functions,  and is a useful tool in helping workplaces understand the support that Return to Work Coordinators provide following work injury, and how employers can support their Return to Work Coordinator to make maximum impact.

The guidelines also contain a new ‘Frequently asked questions’ section and address topics such as national Return to Work Coordinators and certification expiry.

Provide your feedback on the new national Mentally Healthy Workplaces website.

ReturnToWorkSA is pleased to support the release of a new Mentally Healthy Workplaces digital platform developed by the National Mental Health Commission, and invites you to share your feedback on the website.

The purpose of the platform is to provide tailored guidance and resources for organisations, of varied sizes, from a range of different industries, with a variety of roles, as a “one stop shop” for information that helps organisations build mentally healthy workplaces.

As a Return to Work Coordinator, you have some valuable insight into the mental health needs of your organisation and particular industry, making you an ideal candidate to help shape the platform and ensure it meets the needs of the South Australian workplace Community.

The platform has been released in beta mode and is currently seeking feedback from workplaces on how it can be improved, providing you with a rare opportunity to influence a national resource.

Understanding your employer obligations:
Notice of termination

Following a work injury, an employer has an obligation under section 18 of the Return to Work Act 2014 (the Act) to identify suitable employment opportunities and support an injured worker return to work as soon possible.

ReturnToWorkSA and your claims agent are available to guide and support employers in the identification, accommodation and possible re-training of workers to assist retention where reasonably practicable.

Employers who are concerned about their ability to source employment are encouraged to speak with their claims agent or ReturnToWorkSA early and proactively to determine what return to work options might be available.

In addition to an employer’s duty to provide work, employers also have an obligation to notify their claims agent and their work-injured employee at least 28 days in advance if they intend to terminate the employment.

To better understand this obligation and learn why this notification requirement is important read more here
