In Marthenis v Return to Work Corporation of South Australia [2024] SASCA 104, Mr Marthenis sought permission to appeal the decision of the Full Bench of the South Australian Employment Tribunal based on three questions of law. However, the Court of Appeal refused leave to appeal as none of the questions had been properly raised in the appeal and were not errors of law in any event.

WorkCover SA RISE scheme is available to self insurers
The Re-employment Incentive Scheme for Employers (RISE) supports employers to provide a job to injured workers who cannot return to their previous employer. All employers registered with WorkCoverSA (including self-insured employers) are eligible to participate in RISE providing they are making the appropriate levy payments. SA Government/Crown agencies and employers outside South Australia paying the appropriate levy with their relevant Workers Compensation Authority are also eligible.

SARC Report recommends removal of discontinuance fees
The Statutory Authorities Review Committee of the South Australian Parliament (SARC) released its report on WorkCover on 12 February 2010 after 2 years of hearing evidence. While the report recommends removal of discontinuance fees, it is unlikely that the recommendation will be accepted by the Government.

Ai Group releases Guidelines for Preventing Manual Task Injuries in Manufacturing
Ai Group has released its new Guidelines for Preventing Manual Task Injuries in Manufacturing, developed on behalf of the South Australian Manufacturing Occupational Health Safety and Welfare (OHSW) Industry Committee with funding from Employers Mutual, and project management by the Engineering Employers Association (EEASA). During the project, EEASA became a part of the Australian Industry Group.
